![]() Saltspray Rig, another well enjoyed stage, except in ranked. It also makes grating work, unlike a certain stage *cough* Kelp Dome *cough*. Hammerhead Bridge was such a different design, take Port Mackerel and extend it by twice the length and you get this wonderful stage. Widely regarded as having one of the best stage gimmicks, giving more play area after a requirement has been met, it lends itself to all kinds of play styles, and the atmosphere cannot be beaten. At us$20 with Radical Dreamers included I'm not going to complain.ĩ9% Guaranteed are the stages I’m so convinced will return. I do wish they had bothered to update the aspect ratio for Chrono Cross, but that would have been a lot of work, a full on remake rather than just an enhanced port, so I can understand why they didn't. The front mission games are similarly 'flawed but interesting' while chrono cross is practically the ur example of that sort of game in my book. Mechanically it's supposed to be wonky and very flawed but also quite interesting, which is my favorite kind of game even above ones that are just good. I've never played the game before, but my understanding is it's an anthology game with 7 vaguely interconnected stories taking place across different time periods, with character designs and story elements of each coming from a different manga artist. Obscure Squaresoft ports/remakes: Not just Front Mission 1 & 2, but also Chrono Cross (with an official translation of Radical Dreamers!) and LiveAlive, a weird old snes era rpg never before released outside of japan, lovingly remade via the '2d-hd' look of Octopath Travelers and Triangle Strategy. It was also the first real screw ball thing they did after Satoru Iwata-San had passed away. To make matters worse, they did all this while giving out free content like crazy on Nintendo Switch games, kind of telling everyone who wasn’t an early adopter of the system, to screw off. Nintendo even went so far as to alter how they added it up, to make it seem cheaper than it was. Hey, I get it, DLC is a thing, but a season pass that costs more than the base game, is just a shitty thing to do. A $25 dollar Amiibo combo back, which unlocked special content, and a $50 dollar season pass, which was mostly just new dungeons and weapons, brought the total to $115 dollars for all it’s content. While the base game was just full price, which was 40 bucks on the 3DS, it cost far more to unlock all of it’s extra content. Enter Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia. If it’s ground up like a remake should be, and adds extra features or content to sweeten the deal, that’s fair play, however, locking content behind a paywall is cheap. Now, I will say, in most cases a remake can go full price. These two games are fantastic, and my favorite way to play Sonic's first adventures on the go. Unfortunately, M3 never got to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, so you'll have to go elsewhere for that masterpiece. 3D Sonic 2 features much the same, except the Spin Dash is already there, so it's basically just level select, but it also features a "Ring Keeper" mode that allows to start an act with 10 rings if you finished the last act with 10+ rings. ![]() That's right Spin Dash natively in Sonic 1. ![]() It's true that the first three games & Knuckles haven't aged entirely gracefully, but they're still amazing games, and the Sega 3D series is here to help you relive them in all their glory! Developed by M3, these games are native 3DS ports of Sonic 1 and 2 from the Sega Mega Drive, support emulator options such as save states to save your progress, but also lots of special options like choosing between the Japanese and US releases (always always play the Japanese version btw) choosing whether the stereoscopic 3D pops out of the screen, or falls in or, my personal favorite, turning on/off the "special" mode which features a level select and the ever-famous Spin Dash. While many people look at the original 16-bit games with love and adoration, many also look at it with a critical lens. Sonic the Hedgehog is a classic no one can deny this. 5: 3D Sonic the Hedgehog / 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ($6 each)
